My Story
I was born and raised in Canada into an active family with six children. My Dutch parents had
immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's, where my father was a family physician
and my mother was a busy stay-at-home mom.
While raising my two children in the San Francisco Bay Area,
I was very involved in their learning and development and explored alternative avenues to meet
their changing needs, including being one of the founding families of what is now the Greenwood School
in Mill Valley, a multi-disciplinary, Waldorf-inspired community-based K-8. Some two decades ago,
a small group of families sharing a passionate commitment of the education of the whole child
planted the seed, the school took root and continues to thrive today.
As a conditioned athlete and wellness enthusiast, I bring many years of interest and experience
in mind-body studies. Starting with a B.A. in Physical Education, an early anatomy course sparked my
fascination with the workings of the human body that I kept coming back to.
Looking for answers beyond the Western medical model for health and healing, I completed the
Integral Health Studies program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in the early 1990's.
My discovery of the Feldenkrais Method® there presented an opportunity to integrate what I had learned about
body mechanics and athletics to using movement with higher levels of awareness and self-referencing to bring
about profound and lasting change - and completed a four-year professional Feldenkrais training.
For four years, I worked with the adaptive Physical Education Program for the College of Marin,
its focus on those who have experienced strokes or MS. As well, I have completed additional advanced
ABM trainings for both Vitality/Anti-Aging and working with High Performers. I have also taught
Feldenkrais movement classes and workshops at health and fitness clubs for over
ten years to different ages and abilities.
I next set my sights on children, studying and working with Anat Baniel for several years, who with the
Anat Baniel Method (ABM), has further developed the Feldenkrais philosophy to have remarkable
success with special needs children. I had found my calling!
I have also trained and am a Core Specialist in the Masgutova Neuro-Sensory-Motor Reflex Integration (MNRI)
Method, a vast body of work based on primary reflex integration that positively impacts learning and
skill development. I have worked at numerous MNRI intensive family conferences for children
with challenges in both Canada and the U.S.
My time is now exclusively spent working with children with challenges.
